Canadians Abroad and the Right to Vote
We ask that Prime Minister Harper and the Minister of Immigration and Citizenship, Chris Alexander, commit to respect section 3 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and freedoms, which guarantees the right to vote of all Canadian Citizens. Any further attempt by this government and future governments to overturn the recent court ruling that reaffirms that right will be considered an affront to the democratic rights of all Canadians.

Every citizen of Canada has the right to vote in an election of the members of the House of Commons or of a legislative assembly and to be qualified for membership therein.

Why is this important?
There are nearly 3 million Canadians who live abroad, proudly representing Canada and its values. The Canadian Diaspora are informal ambassadors for our great country and are often called on both formally and informally to represent Canada within their communities. In recent years however, Canadians abroad have had our rights as Canadians eroded and more recently our right to vote taken away by the current government. In early 2014 the courts restored those rights on the basis that Section Three of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms assures that All Canadians, regardless of where they live, have the right to vote.
This petition will be forwarded to the Prime Minister and Minister of Immigration and Citizenship once we have achieved 1,000 Signatures.

How it will be delivered
We will forward this petition to the Prime Minister and Minister for Immigration and Citizenship once we achieve 1000 signatures or more. We are not asking at this time for people to send targeted letters.
We will at that time, also notify the press and conduct a virtual press conference.
